Finding The Perfect Interior Designer
I want to write about a topic that is very important and not spoken about as much as it should be. The questions and concerns a designer and client should have when deciding to work on a project together. As I get older and wiser I've come to understand that not every project is right for me just as I am not right for every project. I am at the point in my career where I can chose to decline a project and feel good about my decision. Like in every relationship it has to feel right and comfortable to everyone involved.
Here are a few things you as a potential client should look for in a designer:
1. You like their personality and can imagine spending time with them2. You love their work3. You trust and understand their design process4. They seem excited to work with you and vice versa5. You are comfortable with their fees and budget estimates6. You are comfortable with their timeline
Red Flags......
1. Designer doesn't have work in their portfolio that you truly like2. You don't actually like the designer or their staff members3. You are not comfortable with the budget presented4. You are not sure if they understand your style5. You are not comfortable with their fees
Here are a few things you as a designer should look for in a potential client:
1. You like their personality and can imagine spending time with them2. You understand their style and vision3. You feel confident they will love the end result4. You think they are reasonable and will understand the ups and downs of a project5. You feel that they respect your time6. You believe their budget is realistic for what they are looking to achieve
Red Flags.....
1. You are not their first designer2. They are uncomfortable discussing their budget3. They set forth unrealistic deadlines4. They want you to change your company's procedures for their project5. They question your fees and don't see the value in your time
